2-Arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) is an endocannabinoid that is of relevant interest in human reproductive biology

2-AG is an inhibitor of human CatSper, which results in impaired fertility when 2-AG is present in the sperm plasma membrane. The protein ABHD2 which is also present in the sperm plasma membrane is able to cleave 2-AG upon Progesterone binding to ABHD2. The products of the enzymatic hydrolysis, glycerol and arachidonic acid, do not inhibit CatSper, allowing for activation of the channel.
