TRPV4 is a member of the TRP channel family, which non-selectively conducts both Sodium and Calcium with some temperature dependence, becoming more activated at 37ºC.

In Mundt et al., 2018, our lab sought to figure out the identity of the unknown channel, labeled DSper, which was responsible for Na+ conductance in human sperm that helps with membrane depolarization. Based on evidence from electrophysiology, Calcium imaging, ICC, RT-PCR, and Immunoblotting, it was determined that TRPV4 was in fact DSper.
